Aizawl July 7: Mizos are making efforts to familiarise themselves with the national language.

At a general conference held yesterday, chief guest F. Lalhluna, school education joint director, said developed countries have realised the potential of Hindi as a result of which Hindi language centres have mushroomed all over.

Hindi schools affiliated under the Mizoram Hindi Prachar Sabha have also formed the Mizoram Hindi Propagators Association.

Emphasising the importance of Hindi, he said that it is imperative for Mizos to learn the language. ?Of all the states in the country, Mizoram has the lowest Hindi-literate population. In a country where the majority are Hindi-speaking, Mizos need to have some knowledge about the language. Hindi is our gateway to revitalise our economy,? he said.

A press release issued by the Mizoram Hindi Zirlai Pawl said the education minister has assured students that by next week the government would announce the results of the test taken by prospective Hindi teachers for primary schools.

The release also said the minister informed the students that apart from the first 500 primary school Hindi teachers, the Centre would be sanctioning another 687 posts. The release also quoted the minister as saying that the Centre would also sanction funds to recruit Hindi teachers for middle and high schools.

The minister assured that Hindi teachers employed under centrally-sponsored schemes would be regularised in a phased manner.
