Aizawl, Aug. 5: The state?s new chief secretary Haukhum Hauzel has announced that the Mizoram government would corpora-tise the power and electricity department as soon as the consultants are ready with the blueprint for the transfor- mation.

Answering a question from the media on whether the state still has plans to corporatise the power department, Hauzel yesterday said a Hyderabad-based consultancy had been employed for this purpose.

?The state government has employed the services of a consultant firm in Hyderabad to chalk out the modalities for turning the power department into a corporation. They are working on it,? he said.

The officer, however, could not say how many corporations the department would be divided into.

On the question of the Bairabi thermal power plant, he said it was being maintained as an back-up unit.
