Aizawl: The fifth edition of Mizo Film Award will be held at Hawla auditorium here on Friday.

Altogether 20 feature filmmakers, 13 documentary makers and three short filmmakers have submitted their entries in the event, organised by the department of information and public relations and Mizo Film Promotional Society.

There are eight jury members.

The first edition of the Mizo Film Award was organised in 1996, and after this, three Mizo Film Award events were organised by the Mizo Film Promotional Society.

In 2012, the information and public relations department was chosen as a nodal department for visual arts by the government.

"The department took several steps in promoting film-making and even organised a film production training and acting workshop. The measures paid off. So, the department decided to revive the film award after skipping it for a few years. In co-operation with the Mizo Film Promotional Society, the department is holding the upcoming award this year," an official of the department said.
