Meghalaya BJP leader quits party

Meghalaya BJP leader Jan Arengh resigned from the party on Saturday along with his supporters.

Tura: Meghalaya BJP leader Jan Arengh resigned from the party on Saturday along with his supporters.

Arengh was one of the ticket seekers for the Williamnagar seat but the BJP fielded Santosh Marak for the seat.

Arengh tendered his resignation to state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh, citing personal grounds.

Arengh was last year replaced by Rakesh N. Marak as the BJP's East Garo Hills district president.

Cong support for NPP: Nearly 450 Congress primary members, including 150 workers, on Saturday pledged their support to National Peopl''s Party (NPP) candidate Pongseng R. Marak in Bajengdoba constituency in North Garo Hills district.

"We welcome all Congress workers in our fold. We believe they will work to strengthen the NPP in Bajengdoba," Marak said.

NPP's national president Conrad K. Sangma will officially welcome them in the party at an election rally on February 10.
