Manipur champs with 99 medals

Imphal, Dec. 20: Manipur clinched the team champions title bagging 99 medals in the 20th National Thang Ta Championship which concluded at Kuman Lampak Indoor Stadium today.

Hosts Manipur finished with 76 gold, 14 silver and nine bronze medals, collecting 430 points while Jammu and Kashmir fetched the runners-up title with 13 gold, 40 silver, 15 bronze medals for 215 points. Delhi took the third place with five gold, 15 silver, 13 bronze medals.

The best fighter in the boys’ category was bagged by M. Bidyasagar Singh of Manipur while Nondita Devi of Assam got the best fighter title for girls’ category.

As for the other participating states, Tripura collected three gold, four silver, seven bronze for the fourth spot while Assam came fifth with four gold, five silver and four bronze medals.

Altogether 17 states participated in the meet.

Ukhrul United FC defeated Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation by a solitary goal to move into the second round of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament played at Mapal Kangjeibung.
