Imphal, July 1: Th. Govind Luwang annexed the title in the 2nd Moirangleima Prize-money Men’s Open Chess Tournament at Singjamei on Sunday.
The tournament, organised by Moirangleima Memorial Trust under the Manipur Chess Association, played under Swiss league system, was held on Sunday evenings for the past seven weeks.
In the last and seventh round of the open category of the championship, Th. Govind Luwang drew with P. Chittaranjan Singh but enough to give him the top position with six points and a progressive score of 26.
Second-seeded S. Premjit Singh earned the second spot with five points along with a progressive score of 22.
Premjit drew with R.K. Bhogen Singh to collect half a point.
Bhogen took the third place with five points and a progressive score of 21.
Kh. Bhubon Singh with five points and progressive score of 20 came fourth, while Th. Udoy Singh managed to take the fifth spot with a progressive score of 19.5.
P. Chittaranjan Singh scored five points in the last round to end up in sixth position with a progressive score of 19.
In the under-16 girls’ category, L. Romicha Devi took the champions title fetching 6.5 points.
