Shillong, Aug. 12: Shillong Lajong FC today drubbed Royal Wahingdoh by four goals to lift the Independence Day Cup, 2011 in Aizawl.
In the battle between the two clubs from Shillong, Lajong emerged superior with Zohingmingliana Ralte, Christopher Lyikwobe, Boithang Haokip and Johnny Menyongar scoring for their team. Lyikwobe’s goal came through a penalty.
While Ralte scored in the first half of the match, the remaining three goals came in the second half. The tournament was organised by the Mizoram Football Association.
Mizoram chief minister Lalthanhawla handed the winner’s trophy to Lajong captain Samson Ramengmawia.
Lajong’s participation in the tournament was part of its preparation for the I-League season that begins in October.
