Khuman Lampak to get floodlights

Imphal, May 25: Manipur youth affairs and sports minister D.D. Thaisii today said the state government was planning to install floodlights in the two stadiums at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

Hockey Manipur, the apex association of the state, in its memorandum two days back, had urged the minister to install floodlight at the hockey stadium, construct the roof of the VIP enclosure and replace the astro turf, among others.

Thaisii, while going through the list, said there was already a proposal for installing floodlights in the hockey stadium as well the main stadium, both located at the sprawling Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

On the concern for medical aid centre at Khuman Lampak, Thaisii said the state cabinet had already approved its opening.

However, he was astonished by the request for changing rooms at the hockey stadium stating that these were basic requirements, especially for women players.

The minister noted that there had been some disturbances and delay in the construction of the hockey stadium in order to cater the 5th National Games in Imphal to be held on time.

Khana Chaoba win

Khana Chaoba Kangkhut won the champion’s title of the 1st K. Yaima Memorial Kang Tournament defeating Chingthang Lairembi (A) by 38-22 points.

Khana Chaoba players S. Birkumar Singh and Rupachandra Singh were conferred the best Chekphei and Lamtha titles.

Squash meet: The Manipur Squash Racket Association will host the 2nd State Open Squash Championship at Officer’s Club at Lamphelpat on Friday.
