Kohima, July 5: Accusations and counter-accusations have gained momentum between the Khaplang and Khole-Kitovi factions after the NSCN (K) split last month.
A hard-hitting statement by the Khaplang faction said expulsion of its general secretary Kitovi Zhimomi from the outfit was because he remained incommunicado with chairman S.S. Khaplang for 10 years and began to act on his own without seeking Khaplang’s consent.
“The programmes and policies of the NSCN/GPRN were completely overridden by Kitovi Zhimomi and in many cases, the NSCN/GPRN’s position was compromised,” it stated.
The faction also accused Kitovi of being involved in the last general elections in the state despite instructions not to be involved in “Indian politics, as the Naga struggle was outside and above the purview of the Indian Constitution”.
“For his personal benefits, the national interest of the struggling Nagas were set aside and rubbished,” the statement said.
It further said Kitovi never wanted to be in Myanmar with the chairman as he could not compromise his luxurious living. Having to be based in Myanmar in the company of Khaplang was too much a sacrifice for him.
“Nagas are still struggling for freedom and liberation. As a revolutionary, especially as a leader, one is expected to be a role model possessing integrity, morality, commitment to the cause and high political foresight. The comforts and luxuries of an individual are to be completely set aside if the common cause is to be pursued wholeheartedly,” the statement said.
