Guwahati: Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio of Guwahati, the only government-run film studio in Assam, has recently requested the Assam government to sanction Rs 15 crore for development of infrastructure.
A studio official said funds will be used mainly for purchasing state-of-the-art equipment.
The studio, set up by the Assam government in 1961, is spread across 10 acres of land in the Kahilipara area of Guwahati.
In the first phase, the studio has proposed to purchase Auro or Atmos surround sound system to set up a world-class re-recording sound theatre, digital interference with colour correction unit for film mixing, a mini-camera hall with multiplex on roadside campus, an Arri mini camerafor low-budget films, four camera set-ups for online video studio and arrangement for solar-powered generating system.
"Under the initiative, we will purchase more sophisticated and modern filmmaking equipment. It will cover light, camera and all other elements. All formalities to buy those equipment are nearing final stages and we will start buying within this year from a company with an international reputation. This initiative will be a great gift for the filmmakers of Assam as all can utilise those properties at a highly subsidised rate," Jyoti ChitrabanFilm Studio chairman Pabitra Margherita told this correspondent.
Moreover, recently the film studio introduced the world famous Arri Alexa digital 35mm movie camera, computer-controlled lightening grid for shooting floors, modern lightening equipment and jimmy jibs with a financial assistance from the ministry of information and broadcasting under Assam Accord's provision.
"Jyoti Chitraban is the only studio in the world which provides technical equipment at a very low rate. Earlier, a film package cost Rs 8 lakh but from January 17 we reduced it to Rs 6 lakh after a direction from chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal," Margherita said, while explaining their effort to empower local filmmakers.
At this very moment, the studio has a Sony HDV camera along with Apple group of non-linear edit set-up and one Arri Alexa XT super 35mm digital movie camera.
