May 18: Ananya Hazarika has made Assam proud by securing the top rank in the Indian School Certificate examination, 2013 among all schools in the Northeast under the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi.
A student of Assam Valley School (AVS) in Sonitpur district, Ananya scored the all-India highest marks in sociology (100), political science (100) and 99 per cent in history. She has scored 98.25 aggregate percentage of marks.
A source close to the headmaster’s office of AVS said the school had assessed the ISC results of all schools affiliated to the CISCE in the Northeast and found that Ananya was the topper. Headmaster Derek Mountford congratulated Ananya for her brilliant results and hoped that one day she would make Assam as well as India proud. Expressing happiness with the overall results of ISC and ICSE examinations of his school, Mountford said the results proved the dedication and sincerity of teachers, students and more importantly, innovative teaching and learning methodology of the school.
Sources said an analysis of the ICSE and ISC results in the Northeast has shown that girls have performed better than boys. If Ananya is the topper in the ISC in the Northeast, Meghalee Bose of Loreto Convent, Shillong, who secured 97 per cent (best of five subjects) in ICSE examination (Class X) was the topper in Meghalaya.
Daughter of Amitabh Hazarika, a businessman in Jorhat and Minakshi P. Hazarika, associate professor of geography, JB College in Jorhat, Ananya hopes to get a seat in English in St Stephen’s College under Delhi University. She is undecided about what she will do but said that she would continue studying until completion of her doctorate degree.
Sanskriti the Gurukul in Guwahati has achieved a 100 pass percentage in the ICSE and ISC examinations.
