Guwahati, May 15: Protesters blocked highways by burning tyres and hurled stones at vehicles during the 24-hour Jorhat bandh today.

The bandh was called jointly the All Assam Students’ Union and the Asom Jatiyatiwadi Yuva Chatra Parishad to protest alleged police brutality on LIC employees.

On Wednesday, LIC staff clashed with policemen after an employee was run over by a speeding truck.

Despite heavy deployment of police personnel today, the road link between Upper and lower Assam was disrupted.

and long-distance buses decided not to ply through the town.

A few ASTC buses were provided escorts.

Around 20 protesters picketing in various parts the district were arrested.
