Guwahati, June 6: A Gauhati High Court division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Singh and Justice Suman Shyam today directed the Guwahati development department and Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority to submit a report on the status of the ropeway project connecting south and north banks of Guwahati.
The order was passed in connection with a PIL filed by Rajeeb Kalita.
Bhaskar Dev Konwar, senior advocate, who represented the petitioner, said the PIL was filed for resumption and completion of the ropeway at the quickest possible time, which is on hold since February 2011.
The construction of the ropeway was approved by the state government at the cost of Rs 28.17 crore on March 1, 2006, and work started in 2009.
Work on the project came to a standstill after a well foundation on top of which the post holding the cable will be constructed tilted because of floods.
