Guwahati, April 7: Guwahati emerged the overall champions with 307 points in the Oil India Ltd 37th Assam Inter-District Athletics Championship that concluded at Nehru Maidan in Duliajan yesterday.
Tinsukia and Dibrugarh finished second and third with 215 and 165 points respectively.
Momin Gogoi of Assam Police and Puja Kumari Gupta of Guwahati were the fastest man and woman, winning the men and women’s 100-metre sprint titles respectively.
The other 100-metre champions in the different age groups are Baskar Rao of Dibrugarh (boys’ under-14), Manas Gogoi of Dibrugarh (boys’ under-16), Happy Gogoi of Tinsukia (girls’ under-14), Nibedita Barman of Nalbari (girls’ under-16), Himakshi Kalita of Nalbari (girls’ under-18) and Kiranmoyee Moran of Tinsukia (girls’ under-20).
All of them were named best athletes in their respective categories.
Hasan Zahangir of Guwahati won the boys’ under-18 long jump title and Shatradhar Gogoi of Tinsukia lifted the boys’ under-20 200-metre sprint title to be adjudged best athletes in their respective categories.
Altogether 799 athletes from 35 district units of the Assam Athletics Association participated in the three-day meet, organised under the aegis of the Duliajan Sports Association.
Deputy inspector general of police (eastern range), Satyan Gogoi, was the chief guest.
The championship was inaugurated by the resident chief executive of OIL, Duliajan, K.K. Nath on April 4.
