Ban on raising of funds

The administration issued an order on Sunday prohibiting raising of funds either in cash or kind by any organisation or individual in the entire Kamrup metropolitan district in the run-up to New Year celebrations.Millon riding from 6 pm to 6 am has also been prohibited.

Science team

Altogether 26 child scientists from Assam left for Bhubaneswar in Orissa on Sunday to attend the 13th National Children?s Science Congress. The congress will be held from Tuesday to Saturday. Eight teachers escorted the team.

Seba decision

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam, (Seba) has decided to withdraw the book, Environment Primer, authored by Dinesh Baishya used as a rapid reader by Class VIII students.

New panel

A recent general body meeting of the Guwahati Iddgah Samiti formed a new committee. Abdul Matin was elected the president, while Abdul Manan Farook became the general secretary.

Human rights

An inter-district battalion debate on human rights and police was held at the conference hall of the city police reserve on Saturday.

Teachers meet

The Asom Rajyik Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani has convened a meeting at its office on Tuesday to chalk out a detailed agenda for the teachers? convention to be held on January 18 in the city.

Green drive

Arya Vidyapeeth College recently conducted an environment awareness camp. Students planted trees on the college campus.

Distribution

The employees? union of Canara Bank recently distributed winter outfits, shoes and medicines among 67 inmates of the state home for women at Jalukbari.

Awareness

The food and civil supplies department on Sunday observed National Consumers Day. Various programmes were held to sensitise people about their legal rights as consumers.
