All-assam badminton

Nagaon, Oct. 11: Guwahati-A defeated Guwahati-B 3-0 to be crowned team event champions in the all-Assam inter-district badminton meet under way at Nurul Amin Indoor Stadium here today.

In the opens, Anjali Kalita and Rituparna Kalita of Guwahati entered the girls’ under-19 final. Anjali defeated Dimple Hazarika 21-15, 21-17 and Rituparna beat Susmita Bora 21-14, 20-22, 21-15.

In the under-16 boys’ event, Nikhilesh Sarma of Guwahati beat Dhruba Jyoti Kalita of Jorhat 18-21, 21-15, 21-7 and Abhishek Phukan of Jorhat outplayed Neepjyoti Gogoi of Dibrugarh 21-16, 21-10. On the under-10 boys’ court, Manjit Gogoi of Tinsukia beat Neon Nath of the same district 21-14, 8-21, 21-11 and Md Ehsash of Nagaon defeated Kaustab Deka of Jorhat 21-13, 21-5 in the semifinal round.

In the under-10 girls’ semis, Mayuri Phukan of Tinsukia defeated Debarshi Sengupta of Tezpur 21-13, 21-8 and A. Sonowal of Jorhat beat Asmita Chaliha of Guwahati 21-19, 21-10.

Dibrugarh’s Neepjyoti Gogoi, Ashim Kabir Ali, Krishanu Dohotia and Mayuresh Borkakoty entered the under-13 boys’ semifinals today.
