Gurukul, SP win

Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School and South Point School registered thumping victories in their respective matches of the Mrigen Sarma Trophy 11th All-Assam Inter-school prize-money Cricket tournament at Latasil Ground here today.

Mrigen Sarma Trophy

Guwahati, Nov. 17: Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School and South Point School registered thumping victories in their respective matches of the Mrigen Sarma Trophy 11th All-Assam Inter-school prize-money Cricket tournament at Latasil Ground here today.

While Gurukul inflicted a six-wicket defeat on Modern English School, South Point defeated Miles Bronson Residential School by 58 runs.

In the morning match, Modern School, put in to bat, were all out for 115 in 15.4 overs. The Gurukul batsmen reached 118 for four in 15.4 overs.

Chanchal Singh's brilliant 55-run knock off only 28 balls, laced with five fours and equal number of sixes was not enough to pile up a bigger total for Modern School as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. Jugal Basfor (14, 2x4) was the only other notable scorer for the side.

Biman Kalita, Chinmoy Sarma and Jitmitra Kashyap of Gurukul picked up two wickets apiece giving away 21, 26 and 16 runs respectively.

Nitul Das (20) and Prasiddha Kalita (19) were the notable scorers for Gurukul while Biswajeet Patowary and Shivani Nath of Modern School shared two wickets each for 18 and 24 runs respectively.

In the other match, South Point elected to bat and posted 154 for five in 15 overs. In reply, Miles Bronson boys were restricted to 96 for nine in 15 overs.

Dhruvraaj Borah of South Point remained unbeaten on 54 off 35 balls, hitting eight fours and a six, while teammate Sayan Dey scored 51 off 25 balls. Vishal Sahu and Gaurab Gupta of Miles Bronson claimed two wickets each, conceding 21 and 18 runs respectively.

Gaurab also topscored for Miles Bronson with 19, while 10 runs each came from the bats of Rekib Hussain and Sourav Ghosh. Aditya Gupta of South Point scalped three wickets for 18 runs, while Dhruvraaj and Sarangajyoti Deka claimed two each for 10 and 11 runs respectively.

Don Bosco School will play Hindustani Kendriya Vidyalaya and Fairyland High School lock horns with Pragjyotish English School tomorrow.

Weightlifting: A 27-member team will represent Assam in the Youth and Junior National Weightlifting Championship to be held at Bhubaneswar from November 29 to December 4. The squad will leave from here on November 27.
