Guwahati, July 1: Assam chess prodigy Shahil Dey brought laurels to the state yet again by clinching the gold in the under-8 category of the Commonwealth Chess Championship that concluded in New Delhi yesterday.

Six-year-old Shahil tallied 6.5 points from eight rounds to annex the championship title and, thus, justified his top seeding at the start of the event. Shahil is also the current national under-7 champion and will represent India in the Asian and World Youth Championship in South Korea and Greece respectively in August and October.

He was earlier the Asian under-5 champion in 2014.

The All Assam Chess Association has congratulated Shahil and conveyed its best wishes to him for the upcoming events.
