R.G. Baruah Meet
Guwahati, July 10: Gauhati Town Club and Sunrise AC could not get the better of each other in their Super Division tourney match here today, which is likely to prove costly for either of them later.
Gauhati Town Club and Sunrise AC were locked in the first goalless draw of the ongoing Travel Smart-R.G. Baruah Super Division Football Tournament at the Nehru Stadium here today.
Though both teams secured a point each for the draw in their second match of the league, a decisive result would have stood the winner in good stead.
While GTC had the better of exchanges in the first half, Sunrise looked more in control in the second half but for their finishing. GTC custodian Sambhu Mistry had a torrid time under the bar, making quite a few brilliant saves to frustrate the Sunrise attackers.
GTC forward Padum Rabha, who was involved in a few rough tackles and earned a yellow card for his pains, almost put his team ahead with a powerful volley from outside the box ? but it flew inches above the bar. For the second match running, Sunrise midfielders Namdai Bonang and Mayang Meren gave a good account of themselves, creating chances, only to see them go a-begging.
GTC had lost the pipe opener 0-3 to defending champions Assam Police Blues while newly-promoted Sunrise AC had lost to Jewel Star 0-2.
Tomorrow, NF Railway will clash with Sports Authority of India in their second match.
NF Railway had played a 1-1 draw with Dynamo while SAI had lost to former champions ASEB, without opening their account.
