Guwahati/Shillong, May 21: Altogether 71.34 per cent students from the eight states in the Northeast have cleared this year's CBSE Class XII examinations, the results of which were declared today.
All the eight states, including Sikkim, fall under the Guwahati zone of the CBSE. Altogether 50,710 students took the examinations in science, arts and commerce streams in the zone.
While 74.55 per cent girls came out with flying colours, the pass percentage was 68.28 among boys. The pass percentage of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas was 92.79 while the Kendriya Vidyalayas notched up 93.9. Non-affiliated schools have scored 73.67 per cent marks and government schools in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim were poor performers with 60.2 pass per cent.
Don Bosco School at Panbazar in Guwahati performed brilliantly. A majority of its students secured above 90 per cent aggregate marks in science, commerce and humanities streams. Out of 242 students who appeared in the three streams, 144 secured above 90 per cent marks.
While Harsh Kashliwal was the topper of the school in science with 97.6 per cent, it was Shlagha Bora in humanities who topped with 97.6 per cent marks. In commerce, two students were toppers with above 96 per cent marks.
While Shlagha expressed her gratitude to the school, principal Fr# Sebastian Mathew told The Telegraph that the result is the outcome of the collective effort of all stakeholders of the school. "The high academic standard that the school maintains is seen in this result," Mathew said.
Many other schools in Upper, central and lower Assam performed well in the exam. Students of Army Public School, Shillong, made a very impressive performance in the exam this year.
Of the 171 students who appeared in the examinations this year, 53 scored 90 and above marks in aggregate. This year's results also surpassed all previous records of the school.
Ithianghun Sana Mylliem Pdah topped the science stream by scoring an aggregate of 96 per cent marks. In humanities, Valentina Esther Kharbuli topped by scoring an aggregate of 96.8 per cent marks.
In commerce, Anirban Kar topped by scoring an impressive aggregate of 95.4 per cent marks. An elated principal of the school, Rajeevan P. said: "The students prepared well for the exam and I am delighted with their performance."
On the other hand, B.K. Bajoria School saw all its 186 students attaining pass certificates. In humanities, Dominica Marbaniang secured 92.6 per cent. In science, Khushali Sharma secured 89.6 per cent while Venetia Laloo secured 86.4 and Jeffrey Marbaniang 84.8 per cent. In commerce, Sangam Pandey secured 87.4 per cent marks.
