Nagaon, March 26: The pro-talks faction of the United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) has threatened to take up arms if the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) does not stop killing Karbis in the district, thereby indicating that the situation in strife-torn Karbi Anglong may worsen.
Following the massacre of 34 Karbis in Sarpo Teron, Uden Tissu and Jari Teron villages on Wednesday by the KRA, the pro-talks faction of the UPDS today condemned the incident.
UPDS (pro-talks) publicity secretary Tong Eh Nongloda in a press release accused the district administration of failure to provide security to villagers despite being aware of tension in the area following the Thongbong incident a few days back.
Following Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s visit, governor Ajay Singh reached Diphu this evening. He is scheduled to visit clash-hit areas as well as relief camps tomorrow.
A source in Diphu police said no fresh incident has so far been reported in the district.
