Call for unity and friendship among various Naga tribes reverberated at the Luira Phanit, the seed sowing festival of the Tankhul community, at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Sovima, here on Friday.

Ban on hunting animals

Longleng deputy commissioner M. Shayung Phom on Friday banned hunting of wild animals in any form with immediate effect in view of spread of novel coronavirus in parts of the world. He said action will be taken against the defaulters.

Fellowship visit

Governor’s Young Fellowship visited Government Higher Secondary School Bhandari on Thursday to know the grievances of the teachers and the students of the school, a release said on Friday.

Man trampled

Moynal Hoque, 35, of Sonapur near Dubapara in East Goalpara was trampled to death by wild elephants late on Thursday night.

Power tariff hike

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Mizoram and Manipur has decided to hike power tariff for Mizoram, which will come into effect from April 1, an official statement said on Friday.

Four held with ganja in Jorabat

Four persons were apprehended with 40kg suspected ganja in Jorabat by a team of Guwahati police in the wee hours of Friday.

The consignment was seized based on specific information with Basistha police. The arrested have been identified as James Sangma, Bharati Barman, Parvati Barman and Harana Malik.

Police sources said the consignment was brought by Sangma from Siliguri in an oil tanker.

The consignment, supposed to be delivered to Agartala, was handed over to the three women by James in Jorabat. But the police busted the “racket”.

The police detained them immediately. An investigation is on.

Mishra on cop posting

Arunachal Pradesh governor Brig (retd) B.D. Mishra on Friday said police personnel should not be posted in their home police stations as a matter of routine.

During a meeting with home minister Bamang Felix at Raj Bhawan here, Mishra said police personnel should be properly trained, empowered and motivated to ensure a safe and peaceful state, a Raj Bhawan statement said.

“Posting of police personnel within their home police stations should a rare situation and not a matter of routine or rotation,” the governor said, without elaborating.

Mishra and Felix also discussed law and order and other security matters.

Curfew clamped in Shillong

Curfew has been clamped here and in neighbouring areas after the East Khasi Hills administration received information that there was apprehension of serious deterioration of law and order. Curfew has been

promulgated from 10pm on Friday till 8am on Saturday. A 48-hour shutdown of mobile Internet from 10pm has also been imposed in the six districts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Jaiñtia Hills, East Jaiñtia Hills and Ri Bhoi.
