Guwahati, July 8: Dynamo Club today scripted a 5-0 whitewash over Gauhati Town Club in a rain-washed match of the Guwahati Sports Association’s fourth Narayan Chandra Mahajan super division league football tournament here.
The muddy Nehru Stadium ground that offered little assistance to the players could not resist the Dynamo rampage, spearheaded by Sixbirth Marak and Padum Rabha, over the illustrious Town Club.
Dynamo eventually rode Sixbirth’s hattrick and a brace from Rabha to register their second straight victory in the league. The winners gained the upper hand in the match when Sixbirth found the net five minutes into the game.
The early goal opened the floodgates for Dynamo as Sixbirth, capitalising on his ability to dribble on a slushy ground, struck twice in the 23rd and 25th minutes to complete his hattrick.
Though Town Club tried their best to reduce the margin, the slippery conditions checked their forage into rival territory and the forwards fumbled on several occasions.
The seasoned forward, Rabha, took over after Sixbirth completed his hattrick to open his account in the 35th minute.
Dynamo had a 4-0 advantage when they switched sides after the break. They stuck to a counter-attacking game in the second session as Town Club stepped up their offensive to clear the deficit.
As Town Club moved their players upfront, the counterattacking Dynamo frontline made most of the depleted rival defence with Rabha striking his second goal in the 82nd minute. He shook off his marker in the midfield with a smart dash towards the left flank and beat the Town Club keeper with a neat shot to the goal.
In their first match, Dynamo rode a 70th-minute goal from Hariswar Rabha to beat Maharana AC 1-0, while Town Club lost 0-3 to super league debutants Jewel Star Club.
Jewel Star will meet defending champions ASEB tomorrow.
