Doubles crown for Udit, Rutuja

Assam boy Udit Gogoi and Rutuja Chaphalkar of the US bagged the doubles crown in the Asian Juniors' Under-14 Tennis Tournament that concluded at Jorhat Tennis Club courts here on Saturday.

Jorhat: Assam boy Udit Gogoi and Rutuja Chaphalkar of the US bagged the doubles crown in the Asian Juniors' Under-14 Tennis Tournament that concluded at Jorhat Tennis Club courts here on Saturday.

Udit bagged the under-14 boys' singles and doubles titles while Rutuja won the under-14 girls' singles and doubles crowns. Fifth seed Udit lifted the singles trophy, defeating fourth seed Vishesh Patel of Gujarat 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Udit teamed with Anchit Gogoi, also of Assam, and they became the doubles champions.

In the girls' singles final, second seed Rutuja overcame top seed Sanjana Sirimalla of Telangana 6-3, 6-1 in the final.

Sanjana and Rutuja had a comfortable win over Veda Madhusuda of the US and Kanishka Shree of Karnataka 6-0, 6-0 for the doubles title on Friday.
