Guwahati, Aug 13: The ongoing unification of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) with its splinter groups is set to enter a decisive phase when the 11-member committee of the parent body meets the influential All Assam Students’ Union leadership on August 16. Efforts are also on to meet the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) the same day, said AGP leader Atul Bora.
All the members of the committee, he said, are likely to participate in the talks with the AASU leadership most likely at the AASU headquarters, Swahid Nyas, here.
“It is an important meeting as the AGP originated from the AASU. Their views as well as those of the AJYCP will be important before taking any decision on the unification,” Bora said from Doomdooma where the party is holding its Lakhimpur Mandalik Sabha.
The AGP spokesperson, Apurba Bhattacharjee, said the much-awaited central executive of the party would be meeting at the party headquarters on August 26 to discuss the ensuing parliamentary elections, influx and price rise among others.
On August 1, the unification committee had decided to hold discussions with the AASU and the AJYCP before taking a final call on the unification initiative.
