Nov 7: The Cotton College Union Society will submit a memorandum to the higher education department against the transfer of Manoj Talukdar, senior lecturer in the economics department of the college, to the Assam Engineering College.
Addressing newspersons here today, general secretary of the Cotton College Union Society Bhasco De Saikia alleged that the transfer was “politically motivated The society will also take up the issue with education minister Pankaj Bora.
“We might even take up an agitation programme to stop the transfer,” he added.
Talukar had joined the college in 1993. At present, he is also looking after the arrangements for the National Accreditation and Assessment Council’s (NAAC) visit to the college. The NAAC is scheduled to visit the college for its evaluation soon.
Many people in the college were shocked to hear about the immediate transfer of the senior lecturer, De Saikia said.
He alleged that the person who will replace Talukdar will also be made the head of department, bypassing many senior persons, and that he has close links with a top official of the education department.
“This is an unhealthy trend and we would like to stop it,” he added.
College authorities refused to comment on the matter.
