According to the latest figures, 29 positive cases were reported in Assam and there has also been one death, Manipur has two, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have one case each and two Covid-19 positive cases reported in Tripura.

Addressing a news conference on Friday evening at civil secretariat here, the state Covid-19 nodal officer Deep Kumar Debbarma said the newly-identified patient is a jawan in the 13th battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR), the state’s counter-insurgency force.

“He went to visit his family outside the state and had returned to the camp on March 21. He was one of the co-passengers of the train in which the first Covid-19 positive patient of the state came from Guwahati to Agartala. He was not having any symptoms but since he was one of the co-passengers of the train, we traced him and collected his samples which was found positive,” Debbarma said.

The police, civil administration, along with the health officials, rushed to the spot and he will be brought to GB Pant Hospital where he would be kept under isolation, he said.

“The rest of the other persons in the camp will be put in quarantine and the samples will be collected for test. The first positive patient was tested on Friday and she is recovering,” Debbarma added.

In a Facebook post, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb wrote this evening, “Alert! One more #COVID19 positive case in Tripura has been confirmed, taking the total number to 02.”

The chief minister also informed that the patient is a 32-year-old male from Madhya Pradesh and is currently staying at Damcherra in North Tripura district and has travelled in the train along with the last Covid-19 positive patient of Tripura, who visited Kamakhya temple at Guwahati in March and returned to Tripura on a train.

However, Deb has appealed everyone not to panic.

“…Don’t panic, we are taking all possible measures to keep everyone secure. Stay home Stay safe and cooperate with government,” the Facebook post read.

Earlier on Friday, the government declared the Nursing Training Institute Building (NTI) of IGM hospital as dedicated Covid health centre and New Teaching Hospital (NTH) of GB Pant hospital here as a dedicated Covid-19 hospital.

A notification from the health and family welfare department said it has been decided to notify NTI building of IGM Hospital Complex as a dedicated Covid health centre.
