April 10: The Gauhati Commerce College Alumni Association today prepared a roadmap for accelerating development of the alma mater.
The association, which held the first meeting of its newly-elected executive members at a city hotel, resolved to launch a concerted membership drive after the Bihu holidays, establish its own website next month and raise at least Rs 25 lakh for constructing its own stadium. To be built at a cost of Rs 2 crore, the stadium will have a capacity of 5,000.
The executive members also finalised publication of a monthly bulletin to extend the association?s reach and motivate members. It also finalised the topics for four seminars they plan to host within a year and decided to hold a review meeting every month.
Association president S.S. Harlalka said the responsibility of the membership drive has been entrusted to a committee headed by Rakesh Agarwal, a senior tax official.
The new executive body has pledged to work for its alma mater to continue motivating its successors and other alumni associations. The National Accreditation and Assessment Council has endorsed such an approach as the best bet for an institution?s swift and overall development.
College principal and association working president Ghanashyam Nath, however, could not attend the meeting.
The other office-bearers elected on March 22 included Mahesh Agarwal, Rakesh Agarwal (vice-presidents), R.K. Pathak (general secretary), Subhash Sethi, B. Bhattacharjee (assistant secretaries) and R.N. Choudhury (treasurer).
