Chandmari humble Dispur

Guwahati, March 29: Chandmari Sports Club inflicted a four-wicket defeat on Dispur Youth Club in a low-scoring match of the Servo 23rd Guwahati Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament, organised by River Rine Club, at Judges Field here today.

Put in to bat, Dispur were skittled out for a paltry total of 48 runs in 11.2 overs, courtesy some tight bowling by Tridip Deka, Debojit Basumatary and Kailash Ray of Chandmari. The Chandmari batsmen chased down the target, scoring 52 for six in 10.5 overs.

Sourav Nath (12, 3x4) was the only Dispur batsman to score in double figures.

Tridip Deka took the scalp of three for 12, while Debojit Basumatary and Kailash Ray shared two each for 20 and four respectively.

Chandmari, too, had a shaky start and lost wickets at regular intervals. Amit Sirola's 24 off 20 balls, hitting three boundaries and a six, was the only notable score on the board. Munaf Haque of Dispur took three wickets conceding seven runs and Farhat Choudhury claimed one for 12.

The day's first match between Navarang Club and Kharandou was rescheduled as the ground was rendered unplayable following overnight showers.

College cricket: Gauhati University Institute of Science and (GUIST) Technology will play Tezpur University in the final of the NITS Mirza Inter-College Cricket Tournament at NETES Institute of Technology and Science ground in Mirza on the outskirts of Guwahati on tomorrow.

In the semi-finals played on Tuesday, GUIST (98/1) beat Assam Don Bosco University (94/5) by nine wickets and Tezpur (88/7) overcame hosts NITS (81/7) by seven runs.
