The mezzanine floor is best placed towards the west, southwest or south of the building

Q I have purchased a square plot of land where I intend to build a house. Please suggest whether the building can be built in the centre of the plot or not? I need help with the location of the stairs, number of steps, underground and overhead water tank, mezzanine floors, swimming pool and septic tank as well.

Sarvesh Saikia

A: When the plot is a perfect square then the building should be constructed in its centre, leaving equal space on all four sides. Here the centre of the plot would merge with the centre (tai chi or brahmasthan) of the house, which is a very positive feature. Alternatively bring the weight of the building by constructing it towards the west, southwest and south. More open space should be left towards the north, northeast and east.

Staircases are best located in the south, west, northwest and southwest. The first riser should begin from the north or east and turn clockwise. The steps should be in odd numbers like 11, 17, 23 and so on. The number, if divided by three, should always have two as the remainder. The best and auspicious location for the underground water tank or reservoir is the north or east of the northeast corner, but away from the imaginary energy line that runs from northeast to southwest.

Overhead water tanks should be built in the northwest or southwest. Mezzanine floor is best placed towards the west, southwest or south of the building. Swimming pools should always be located in the north or east of northeast sector but away from the house to avoid any kind of mishap. These should never be dug in the south and southwest if you do not have provision for them in the right zone. The septic tank should ideally be in the northwest of the property.

Q: I was successfully running a textile factory for a decade. Suddenly my business came to a standstill. It is really surprising but it actually happened after I bought the ground floor of the building where my factory is. I am the owner of the entire premises. I am very depressed with the state of my business, which once generated huge profits. Could it be because of buying the ground floor or is it just a thought that is troubling me?

Shiva Thapa

A: Unfriendly feng shui or vastu can have negative effect on any residential or commercial area. One may pay a heavy price for violation of these principles and regret later.

In your case, I strongly feel that the ground floor must have been built or designed against the principals of feng shui/vastu. I expect that the structure of the building is feng shui/vastu-friendly and hence there was no problem for the first floor occupant.

Please check for any structural floor depression towards the south and southwest of the ground floor. If this is the case, then fill up the land in this area and ensure that the floor is sloping towards the north. Knock down any heavy structure or toilets, if any, towards the northeast of the ground floor. Create a temple instead in the east of northeast sector. Bring stability by keeping the heaviest machine or the raw material in the southwest of the ground floor. Cut out windows in the north, northeast and east of both the floors. Ensure that the energy of the centre of the ground level is not blocked by any heavy column.

These corrections will definitely invite fresh and productive energy to your factory and your business will once again become prosperous.
