Jorhat, Dec. 6: A seamless, secular society was the call of the day at an event organised here today on the death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar and Babri Masjid destruction.

The event was organised by the Sanmilita Jatiya Aikya Mancha at Kathashilpi Dimbeswar Dayal Sharma auditorium in Jatiya Bhawan.

Former professor of political science, Dibrugarh University, Adil-ul Yasin, paid tribute to Ambedkar by listing his contributions in drafting the Constitution, as an economist, a reformist and political thinker. 'Ambedkar had said India would never be able to rise if its society is divided on the lines of caste, creed and religion,' he said.

Devabrata Sharma, chief editor of Asomiya Jatiya Abhidan, condemned the pulling down of Babri Masjid. 'The day is a blot on India's democracy and no religion has the right to attack the religious beliefs and places of worship. But everywhere such intolerance is perceived, be it the destruction of Bamiyan Buddha statues by Taliban or pulling down of mosques or churches,' he said.
