Guwahati: The All India Peoples Science Network on Friday alleged that the government has failed to promote scientific temperament among the people, resulting in increase of mob lynching and urged the people to observe National Science Temper Day on Monday.
"The government is deviating from the development of rational and scientific thinking among the people. It has failed in the promotion of developing science education, leading to the lack of nurture of scientific temperament among the people of the region," said Isfaqur Rahman, a central committee member of the All India Peoples Science Network (AIPSN).
The organisation has decided to observe National Scientific Temper Day on August 20 from this year. Its affiliated institutions in Assam, like the Assam Science Society, Elora Vigyan Mancha, Gyan Vigyan Samiti, Assam and CRU (Northeast) have also come forward to support it.
"We will organise National Scientific Temper Day in honour of India's rationalist, Narendra Dabholkar, who was killed by militant forces on August 20, 2013. Since then, there has been a premeditated murder of a number of intellectuals and writers that indicates the suppression of scientific outlook and critical thinking," said Rahman.
Referring to the recent Dokmoka lynching and other such incidents, he said, "This shows that the state is still gripped with superstitious thoughts and unscientific attitude, and the government has failed to take any step against lynching."
The AIPSN appealed to everyone to cooperate the organisation in promoting scientific temperament. A cultural procession will also be taken out here on Monday.
Writer Dinesh Chandra Goswami and journalist Prasanta Rajguru will deliver a lecture at Lakhiram Barua Sadan here.
