Guwahati, Jan 15: Hosts Bud Cricket Club, Guwahati, retained the 2nd Dhireshwar Kalita Bud Challenge Twenty20 cricket tournament title defeating Tinsukia Railway Divisional Sports Club, Tinsukia, by four runs in an action-packed final at Nehru Stadium here today.
In the final encounter that ended in a nail-biting finish, Bud Cricket Club elected to bat and were all out for 126 off the last ball of the innings. Giving chase, the Tinsukia railmen, despite their best efforts, could manage to score only 122 runs losing eight wickets in the stipulated overs.
All-rounder Gokul Sharma emerged as the batting mainstay for Bud Cricket Club with a patient 41, hitting only two boundaries in his 45-ball-innings.
Rana Sarma and Rajib Kalita chipped in with useful knocks of 20 runs each. Sarma remained unbeaten facing 14 balls hitting two boundaries.
Dipankar Banerjee of Tinsukia Railway picked up four wickets for 14 runs and Suraj Dutta claimed three for 39.
Later, wicketkeeper-batsman Samarjit Nath played the sheet-anchor for Tinsukia Railway scoring 46 runs with the help of six boundaries. Dipen Mahanta contributed 24 runs with the bat, but the other batsmen were dismissed cheaply. Mukut Kalita was the most successful bowler for Bud CC. He notched up three for 17 to be declared the Man of the Match.
Samarjit Nath was adjudged Player of the Tournament and his teammate Dipen Mahanta the Best Batsman. Gokul Sharma was named Best Bowler and Hirakjyoti Das of Bud, the Best Wicketkeeper. Suraj Dutta of Tinsukia Railway was adjudged Best Fielder.
The champions bagged a prize money of Rs 20,000 and the runners-up were given Rs 11,000 along with the respective trophies.
