Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said he will go to Imphal again on Wednesday for parleys with “disgruntled MLAs and leaders” and the crisis faced by the Manipur government will be resolved in three days.

Even as the Congress iterated its demand for a floor test in the Assembly, chief minister N. Biren Singh met governor Najma Heptulla at the Raj Bhavan on Monday. But Details of the meeting were not available.

Sarma, who is also the convener of the North East Democratic Alliance, had already met all four MLAs of the National People’s Party and three BJP legislators to iron out differences. NPP president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma was present during Sarma’s meeting with the NPP MLAs. The NPP had withdrawn support to the BJP government last week.

The BJP MLAs are believed to be in the Congress camp now.

One of the four NPP MLAs told The Telegraph on Monday that they had no issue with the BJP. “But we have serious differences with the chief minister’s style of functioning. For any patch-up bid to be successful, he has to be removed,” said the MLA.

Asked if they would leave the newly-formed Congress-led Secular Progressive Front, the MLA said: “ First, let them remove the chief minister.”

But state Congress spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei said none of the NPP MLAs would support the BJP even if the chief minister was replaced.

“NPP legislature party leader L. Jayantakumar clearly stated it at a press meet today (Monday), said Meitei.
