Guwahati, March 20: Bijit Gogoi of Assam has emerged champion-of-champions at the Federation Cup Body-Building Championship in Mangalore.
Gogoi has also been officially named Mr India 2006. The contest was held on January 29 at Mumbai. This is the second time that Gogoi has been named Mr India after he won the title in Jorhat in 2004.
Gogoi defeated his closest rival Ganesh Shenoy of Karnataka for a purse of Rs 10,000 last evening. Gogoi also emerged the champion in the 85-90 kg weight group event comprising 20 contestants.
In Guwahati, Sujay Sharad of Maharashtra edged past defending champion H. Krishnamurthy of Karnataka to clinch the Mr Saraighat 2006 title in the 17th R.G. Baruah Memorial All India Open Body Building Competition last night. The contest was organised by the Assam Body Builders? Association at the District Library here
Sharad pocketed a cash prize of Rs 25,000 while Krishnamurthy and second runner-up Mohd Rizuan were awarded Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
