Imphal, Nov. 22: The Bangladesh Communist Party has informed CPI leaders in Delhi that Sana Yaima, the chairman of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), was arrested by Bangladesh and Indian intelligence officials from Dhaka and taken to India.
Manjur Hassan Khan, the chairman of the Bangladesh Communist Party, provided this information to CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan today, according to sources in the CPI.
“Yes, we received the news today. But the details of the information given by Bangladesh Communist Party to Bardhan would be known tomorrow. There are not much details at this moment,” a CPI leader said.
The information was given over the phone today, the source said.
The Bangladesh Communist Party made an inquiry over the disappearance of Sana Yaima after the CPI requested the Bangladesh party to check the media reports about Sana Yaima’s arrest.
Media reports said Sana Yaima alias R.K. Meghen was arrested by RAW and Bangladesh intelligence officials from Dhaka in the first week of October.
The UNLF in a statement claimed that he was arrested on September 29 from Dhaka and taken to India.
However, New Delhi and the Okram Ibobi Singh government have not reacted to the news reports and are yet to make an announcement on the reported arrest.
Bardhan on November 19 spoke to Khan over the phone and requested him to make an inquiry into the media reports.
Bardhan took up the issue after the Manipur unit of the party sent party leader Moirangthem Nara Singh to Delhi to discuss the matter with party leaders.
Bardhan also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on November 19, urging him to reveal the whereabouts of Sana Yaima to the public.
“Failing to do so would give rise to all sorts of apprehensions and fuel turmoil in the state,” the memorandum cautioned the Prime Minister.
The CPI also instructed the party’s leader in Rajya Sabha, D. Raja, and Gurudas Dasgupta, the CPI leader in Lok Sabha, to raise the Sana Yaima issue in the ongoing Parliament session.
Tension is slowly building up in Manipur over the disappearance of the militant leader.
Families of Involuntarily Disappeared Association Manipur decided to send a representation to the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance, seeking to know whereabouts of Sana Yaima.
The decision was taken in a meeting attended by various civil society organisations yesterday in Imphal.
The representation would be sent to the UN body on Wednesday, the organisation said.
