Apart from the bird park, the surroundings of Umananda temple would be given a facelift under the same project. The scheme entails construction of pathways around the hillock, landscaping and formation of self-help groups to ensure upkeep of the temple. The self-help groups will also be allowed to set up shops, restaurants and recreation centres in the temple complex.

The administration will rope in the State Inland Water Transport Authority to introduce boat-riding and other facilities for visitors to Umananda.

?We are also trying to create a trekking route at the temple site by involving the archaeology department in the process,? an official disclosed.

Work on a ropeway connecting the temple with the city is scheduled to begin this month. One end of the ropeway will stretch from Nehru Park to Dol Govinda, in North Guwahati. Another end of the ropeway will originate at Dol Govinda and connect it to Nehru Park.

?Umananda temple will be the stopover in the to-and-fro ropeway journey,? a frequent visitor to the temple said.

Aizawl, May 17: For perhaps the first time in the state, a couple will be wedded in a ceremony conducted in sign language. The groom, Clement Vanlalrema and bride V. Lalremruati, are both hearing and speech impaired, reports our Aizawl correspondent.

The circular demanded prompt action in the surrender issue by the Mizoram government. The outfit said two of its former members were running a recruitment racket to take advantage of the state?s rehabilitation package for surrendered Brus.

A local daily reported that the two former BLFM leaders ? the outfit?s vice president A. Toisarai and general secretary Lalrinkima Molsoi ? were recruiting ?members? for the rebel group solely for the purpose of making them surrender before the Mizoram government to reap the benefits of rehabilitation.

?Already, 100 people have been recruited and they have been asked to pay Rs 3,000 each for their recruitment, apart from an entry fee of Rs 200. These two people have been promising their recruits Rs 90,000 as the rehabilitation package that would be provided by the Mizoram government,? the report said, quoting parts of the circular.

The circular reportedly pressed the state government to place the duo under house arrest at the Tuipuibari transit camp set up for surrendered Bru rebels.
