Guwahati, July 4: Ashmita Chaliha of Guwahati walked away with double crowns after clinching the under-17 and 19 titles in the first All-Assam Ranking Badminton Tournament at Kanaklata indoor stadium here today.
In the under-17 category, the in-form Ashmita got the better of Manali Bora of Guwahati 21-18, 21-16 while in the under-19 girls final, she again defeated Manali Bora 21-10, 21-11.
Ashmita’s triumph today was anticipated after her string of wins in the tournament.
Yesterday, Ashmita had got the better of teammate Megha Murchana Bora 21-9, 21-13.
In the under-19 boys’ final, Orijit Chaliha of Guwahati beat fellow teammate Deepjyoti Dutta 21-19, 21-18.
Anurag Talukdar of Guwahati emerged champion in the under-10 boys’ category, defeating Keshab Chetry of Digboi 21-19, 10-21 and 21-5.
In the under-10 girls’ category, Disha Sarma of Guwahati got the better of Ankita Gogoi of Lakhimpur 21-15, 21-9. In the under-13 boys’ category, Angshuman Gogoi of Lakhimpur beat Abhijit Gogoi of Sivasagar 21-17, 20-22 and 21-8 while in the under-13 girls’ category final, Suzen Buragohain clinched a victory by defeating Rajkumari Indrani Gogoi 21-10, 13-21 and 21-19.
Chimran Kalita of Guwahati emerged champion in the under-15 girls’ category by clinching victory against Maini Baruah of Sivasagar 16-21, 21-12 and 21-6.
Chimran, like Ashmita, too had a dream run in the meet, having got the better of top seed Suzen Buragohain 21-12, 21-19 in the under-15 girls’ quarter-finals yesterday.
