Arunachal pays tribute to Gamlin

Itanagar, Dec. 2: Hundreds of people here today paid their last respects to former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin who died in a hospital in Gurgaon on Sunday.

Gamlin’s body was brought here in a helicopter from Guwahati and was kept at the Naharlagun helipad, where people from all walks of life had assembled, for nearly two hours.

Politicians across party lines paid tributes to the former chief minister.

Speaker Nabam Rebia, Deputy Speaker T.N. Thongdok, home minister Tanga Byaling, PWD minister Gojen Gadi, legislators, top government officials were among the mourners. Wreaths were placed on the mortal remains of Gamlin on behalf of governor Lt Gen. (retd) Nirbhay Sharma and chief minister Nabam Tuki.

Those who came to the helipad bade farewell to the departed leader in the traditional custom of Galo tribe, to which he belonged, with the funeral song Aben.

Gamlin was suffering from liver thrombosis and was undergoing treatment in a Gurgaon hospital.

His body was flown to Aalo in West Siang district where the last rites will be held tomorrow.
