Agartala: The state government is hoping to roll out mobile app-based aggregators transport services in Tripura by next month on the lines of Ola and Uber.
Transport minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Thursday said, "The new service would involve auto-rickshaws and cab services, which can be booked, availed of and paid via mobile applications. People would be able to avail of the services, named Jugnoo, during the Durga Puja season."
"Six service providers have expressed interest to launch the service so far. We have chosen one, Jugnoo, which provides services in several other states. This service is likely to be available here in West Tripura, Bishalgarh in Sipahijala district all the way till Udaipur in Gomati district," the minister added.
The state transport department had earlier formulated a draft law - The Tripura on Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators. The draft law, which would be applied for the new transport service as a digital intermediary, solicits for a passenger to connect with a driver having appropriate licensed vehicle.
Founded in 2014 by few Indian Institute of Technology graduates in Chandigarh, Jugnoo claims to be the country's first auto-rickshaw aggregator. The company started from running local services-on-demand and now provides services in over 45 cities in India.
The draft law for aggregators transport service was already approved by the law department with minor changes, Roy said.
Joint transport commissioner Sabyasachi Singh said Jugnoo runs app-based auto and cab services in big cities, including Bhubaneswar and Chandigarh, also in foreign mega cities like Singapore.
Two entrepreneurs from here and Kakraban in Gomati district had earlier developed mobile apps to introduce auto and cab services.
