Guwahati, July 19: A day after announcing temporary suspension of the coaching programme for the 33rd National Games, the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) last night decided to continue with the camps, thanks to the intervention of chief minister Tarun Gogoi.

Addressing the trainees during a brief entertainment programme at Newfield here, AOA secretary Mukut Medhi said Gogoi, who is also the president of AOA, had instructed the association to continue with the coaching programme.

?The chief minister has also convened a meeting of the AOA along with all state associations in his office chamber on July 23 to chalk out the future course of action,? Medhi said.

?We were compelled to suspend the coaching programme so that the state associations could avail the financial grants offered by the directorate of sports (DoS) for coaching. However, the chief minister has asked us to continue with the camp. Hence, the first 40-day camp will now conclude on July 25 and the second will resume after a 10-day break,? he added.

The AOA had on Sunday announced termination of the ongoing camp with immediate effect, following a meeting with the National Games Secretariat (NGS) and the DoS where it was stated that in order to avail of Dispur?s assistance, the state associations would have to pull out of the AOA camp.

However, those associations whose probables were undergoing training were reluctant to pull out of the camp and decided to wait till the camps were terminated by the AOA as the state bodies wanted the coaching of their probables to continue.
