Jorhat, Nov. 12: Two persons died while one was seriously injured when Royal Bengal tigers attacked them in two separate incidents at Handibari and Diring areas near Kaziranga National Park today.
Forest officials said 50-year-old Jawaharlal, a labourer of Hatikhuli tea estate, died on the spot when he was attacked by a Royal Bengal tiger around 11.30am.
Jawaharlal and two of his associates, Ganesh and Harku, had gone to Handibari, a restricted area near the park, to fetch firewood when the trio were attacked.
“Harku fled from the scene as soon as the tiger appeared. Jawaharlal and Ganesh, however, grappled with the tiger. While Jawaharlal died, Ganesh escaped with serious injuries. He has been admitted to Bokakhat civil hospital,” a forest official said.
In another incident, Krishnakanta Gogoi was seriously injured when he was attacked by a tiger at Diring village near the national park early this morning. Gogoi, who was initially admitted to Bokakhat civil hospital, died while being shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
