Aizawl: The salaries of Mizoram government employees are likely to rise by 18 per cent after the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission's recommendation, official sources said on Tuesday.
The Mizoram Pay Implementation Committee, constituted by the state government in 2017 to study the feasibility of the implementation of the pay commission, submitted its report and recommendations to finance minister Lalsawta on Monday.
The four-member committee, headed by former finance minister and vice-chairman of the State Planning Board, H. Liansailova, recommended implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission with effect from July 1, 2018.
According to the recommendations, the salaries are estimated to rise by 18 per cent and the state government would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 67.77 crore monthly, including Rs 44.07 crore for regular employees, when the central pay commission's recommendations are implemented, according to Liansailova.
He said the committee had been working hard to study the pay structure and convened meetings at least seven times.
Liansailova said the tax revenue of the state had declined by 55 per cent after the implementation of goods and services tax (GST) since July last year.
"We have made recommendations keeping in mind the revenue and financial position of the state. The recommendations were made so they can be implemented by the state government," he said, adding that the committee also studied implementation of the pay commission's recommendations in states like Odisha, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
Lalsawta said the report would be submitted to the state government for further scrutiny and placed before the cabinet for final approval.
He, however, appealed to all traders and vendors not to hike prices of commodities due to implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission's recommendations.
Lalsawta had told the Assembly in March that the state government intended to implement the Seventh Pay Commission's recommendations in the fiscal 2018-19 fiscal.
The pay implementation committee was constituted on November 13 last year. Headed by Liansailova, the other members are minister of state for agriculture K.S. Thanga, former finance secretary Lalthansanga and tax commissioner Vanlalchhuanga as member secretary. The committee was told to submit its report and recommendations within six months.
