Jorabat: A public meeting on Jogdol mass murder case was held by 13 organisations of Dimoria, including tribals and students' organisations at Sonapur Tricem hall in Kamrup (metro) district on Monday evening.
People, including RTI activists Dulal Bora, Bidyut Bora along with leaders from different organisations besides local people discussed the aspects relating to the murder case and things that could be done jointly by all the organisations to speed up the investigation.
Harakanta Doloi, 45, his wife Sapna, 40, and their four children were murdered at Jogdol village under Sonapur police station on December 12, 2009. The bodies of two children were found decapitated.
On December 6, the CID arrested Pranab Kumar Deka, officer-in-charge of Azara police station and Abdul Matlib Choudhury, a sub-inspector, on charges of destruction of evidence. Deka was officer-in-charge of Sonapur police station in 2009 and Choudhury was the investigating officer of the case.
Ratneshwar Ronghang, who is leader of a tribal organisation, said the people of Dimoria would not remain silent on this issue and those involved in the murders should be arrested and punished soon.
Dibyajyoti Medhi, adviser to Dimoria unit of AASU, said: "We thank the government and the CID for arresting the two police officers who were involved in destroying evidence."
Bora said now all the culprits, irrespective of their social backgrounds, would be arrested and punished. "For the people of Assam, I have written a book which will highlight details of the killings, focusing on the people involved. The motive and other aspects of the case will be published on Tuesday, the 8th anniversary of the case."
