The Tripura government has decided to construct a 123km rural road in just 72 hours.

A press release from the CMO said Tripura is ready to set a record by constructing a 123km rural road in just 72 hours and chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb will launch the mega drive from Bhagalpur gram panchayat in the West district on Sunday.

“The initiative will not only ease the lives of over one lakh rural people covering 571 habitats but also generate employment for around 60,000 people and create near about 1.5 lakh person-days under MGNREGA,” the press release stated.

Altogether 1.25 crore bricks would be used under this programme which will give a fillip to the local brick manufacturing industries.

“The mega drive will be a never-heard achievement for the country. West Tripura district is leading the path in delivering ‘ease of living’ to the villagers. The initiative will ensure access road for the villagers, productively using MGNREGA to provide employment. The use of 1.25 crore bricks is expected to give stimuli to industry and above all, it is a step towards empowering the last man in the queue by using a creative application of resources,” it stated.
