The 252nd birth anniversary of Raja Rammohan Roy was observed by the Brahmo Samaj on Wednesday in association with the West Bengal government and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Celebrations were held at the Maidan in front of the statue of Rammohan Roy. Students of Brahmo Balika Shikshalaya also participated in the programme

Visitors are no longer allowed inside Manohardas Tarag, the iconic pond opposite Firpo’s Market on Jawaharlal Nehru Road. The state public works department has handed over the water body to Railway Vikas Nigam Limited to facilitate the tunnelling and construction of the Esplanade station for the Joka-Esplanade Metro corridor. The water will shortly be completely drained out
