Black clouds engulfed the sky on Thursday evening. Later, a smart shower brought the much-needed relief. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) report said, “A squall passed over Alipore observatory (Kolkata) from north northwesterly direction on Thursday at 5pm with a maximum wind gust of 68 kmph that lasted for a minute and over Dumdum at 5.15pm from northwesterly direction which was around 68 kmph. It also lasted for a minute.” Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management sounded an alert of heavy showers and thunderstorm for South 24 Parganas, Kolkata and Nadia
