Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s ‘Once Upon A Time in Calcutta’ is scheduled to be screened on April 29 at the 20th edition of IFFLA, which will showcase 26 films (10 features, 16 shorts). Sengupta’s third feature, after ‘Asha Jaoar Majhe’ and ‘Jonaki’, stars Bratya Basu, Sreelekha Mitra, Anirban Chakraborty and Satrajit Sarkar.

IFFLA is set to introduce a new Spotlight on South Asia segment, opening with Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s Bangladeshi psychological thriller ‘Rehana’ (also known as ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’). The film made history for being the first film from Bangladesh to compete at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard.

‘Valley of Flowers’ director Pan Nalin’s 2021 film, ‘Last Film Show’, will also screen at IFFLA as a special presentation. The film about a 9-year-old boy, who stumbles upon a rundown movie theatre, is the filmmaker’s celebration of cinema.

Faraz Ali’s ‘Shoebox’ is set to make its North American premiere at IFFLA. The film, starring Amrita Bagchi and Purnendu Bhattacharya, tells a coming-of-age story, centred on a woman who watches her father struggle to keep the family’s single-screen movie theatre afloat.

FTII alum Nithin Lukose’s acclaimed directorial debut, ‘Paka (River of Blood)’ will also be screened at IFFLA. The revenge thriller, produced by Anurag Kashyap, pits two rival families against each other in a modern Shakespearean narrative.

Irfana Majumdar’s ‘Shankar’s Fairies’ is a delicate story set in 1962 post-colonial Lucknow. The film has been written by the director’s mother Nita Kumar and is based on her childhood experiences.

Bangladeshi director Nuhash Humayun’s (son of Humayun Ahmed) horror-short ‘Moshari’ will have its North American premiere at IFFLA. The film unravels in a dark world, where a traditional South Asian mosquito net becomes the only means of protection for two sisters against bloodthirsty nocturnal creatures.
