In pictures: Inside musician Diptanshu Roy’s latest project Dolinman X's first concert

Instrumental creations to covers of ‘Kolkata’ and ‘Kotoi Ranga,’ and more — it was an evening of celebrating the many notes of Roy’s music

The first public concert of musician Diptanshu Roy’s Dolinman X series took place at First Flush cafe in Gariahat on September 10. The name of the series — also the singer’s screen name — Dolinman is an anagram of mandolin, the musical instrument he’s a master of. Diptanshu teamed up with singer Prajna and classical guitarist Abhijit Kundu for the concert. The project is a collaborative series with artists from various genres of performing arts

The trio embarked on an hour-long musical journey, starting with the popular Bengali song ‘Kolkata’ from the film ‘Praktan’

The audience was a mix of music aficionados, including popular names like musician Sayatya Mallick of the Bengali band Sayatya & Friends and the Bong Eats duo Saptarshi Chakraborty and Insiya Poonawala

Well-known musician Arko Mukhaerjee also dropped by, surprising the audience

“The idea of this series came to me in 2021 during the pandemic when I started to miss interacting with fellow musicians and the audience,” said Diptanshu about the project when introducing the series. The musical evening continued with a ‘bhawaiya’ number from Cooch Behar, and songs like ‘Kotoi ranga dekhi duniyay’, ‘Cheye cheye dekhi saradin’ and more. Each piece had a creative take by the trio, adding more surprises to the evening

On popular demand, Arko Mukhaerjee too jammed with his old friend, singing ‘Little girl of mine in Tennessee’

Diptanshu enthralled the audience with his instrumental prowess and also performed ‘Dolinman's Reel,’ a self-composed instrumental piece recorded during the 2021 pandemic.
