The Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), a unit of the National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is back with the Eastern India Science and Engineering Fair 2023, after a hiatus of two years. The fair, being organised at the BITM grounds, will end at 4pm on January 13. It is open to all age groups

Describing his model, Mohammad Rahim, from Kabir Memorial Urdu High School, Jamshedpur said, “This is a smart digital dustbin which doesn’t need physical contact. The sensor works when one places his/her palm 30cm above the lid, the dustbin opens automatically. It closes after five seconds. This can be highly useful for hospitals. I completed this project in two days.’’
Class VIII students of Sri Sri Academy, Kolkata presented 'special' terracotta windows. According to Anshika Tibrewal, “The regular wooden window pane is prone to decay and termite attack and hence we tried to replace it with terracotta which is an eco-friendly material, porous, inexpensive and fire resistant. One side of the terracotta panel has been painted black to absorb the heat during the winters while the other side has been laced with aluminium foil to reflect heat during the summers.’’
Falak Sheikh from Sahkari PGH/School Patkhauli Bagahaz, West Champaran, Bihar presented an innovative way of having gol gappas. “This is a ‘Hygiene Gol gappa Pot’. It has a filter pot in the centre with pipes on both sides which can be regulated by keys. These pipes are attached to two more pots. When water is poured into the pot, it gets filtered. The side pots contain sweet and sour water. Consumers can regulate the side tap to add on the sweet/sour flavour to suit their taste.’’
